ATLANTIC CITY, Oct. 22 -- Ivan Salaverry (9-3-1) forced Tony Fryklund (11-4-0), a late replacement for injured Trevor Prangley, to verbally submit 1:36 of round one with a rarely-used triangle body-lock. Fryklund's high energy out of the gate set the tone for the short bout and Salaverry responded in kind. The action was frenetic, with both middleweights striking to the head and body.

Following an even and exciting opening minute, Salaverry gained advantage with a heavy right hand that stumbled Fryklund backwards. In one fluid motion, Salaverry followed with a kick that connected flush while Fryklund fell to the mat.

On the ground, Salaverry controlled the muscular Fryklund, quickly moving to back control. The Seattle resident followed with punches to the side of Fryklund's exposed head, before tightening his grip on the match with the triangle body-lock.

With Fryklund face first on the light blue Octagon canvas, Salaverry tried to put an arm around his Boston-born opponent's thick neck. Unsuccessful, the lanky Salaverry arched his hips forward, making Fryklund wince in pain. His hands trapped beneath him, Fryklund had no option but to ask referee Herb Dean to stop the contest. He stayed on the mat for several moments before gingerly regaining his feet.

Known for his submission game, Travis Lutter entered the Octagon as a last-minute replacement for Patrick Cote. Following a first round that earned a cascade of boos from the still-filing-in New Jersey crowd, Lutter (7-1-0) countered a Marvin Eastman (7-4-0) low kick with a looping right hand that dropped the Las Vegas-based kickboxer on the spot.

The first five minutes saw little action, as Lutter and Eastman mirrored each other inside the Octagon. Eastman, who refused to touch gloves with Lutter following the opening bell, stuffed a double-leg shot -- Lutter's lone takedown attempt -- and fired his only meaningful punches of the fight while fending off the grappler.

But that was the only offense from either man in round one. Between periods, the crowd booed lustfully. The second period featured more action in 33 seconds than in the entirety of round one. Live, the fight-ending blow appeared vicious, as Eastman collapsed to the canvas while Lutter stood over him. Replays , however, failed to reveal the damaging blow that one would have suspected. Instead, Lutter's counter appeared to barely meet its mark. The result, however, was hard to argue with.
