Welterweight prospect Charlie Brenneman defeated Mitch Whitesel by unanimous decision in the Valley Fight League “Broad Avenue Brawlers” main event on Friday at the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona, Pa. All three judges sided with Brenneman by 30-27 counts.

Brenneman scored with takedowns in each of the three rounds, as he controlled the bout against the Ring of Combat and Sportfight veteran. Based out of the same AMA Fight Club that spawned Dan and Jim Miller, the 28-year-old (9-1) has rattled off four consecutive victories since suffering his lone defeat as a professional -- a unanimous decision loss to current UFC welterweight John Howard.

The winner of Season 1 of Spike TV’s “Pros vs. Joes,” Brenneman passed guard in each round, worked from side mount and eventually moved to full mount in the third, where he landed some effective punches and elbows on the defensive-minded Whitesel (12-13).

Brenneman will represent Team USA East at M-1 Challenge 18 on Aug. 15 at Studio 22 in Hilversum, Netherlands. There, he will lock horns with Raymond Jarman, a Dutch muay Thai stylist who has won seven of his last nine fights.

Mewborn Victorious at Wild Bill’s

Maximum Fighting Championship veteran Dave Mewborn submitted Dave Baggett with a first-round guillotine choke in the featured bout at Wild Bill’s Fight Night 21 on Friday at Wild Bill’s Atlanta in Duluth, Ga. The end came 2:35 into round one.

One of the top middleweight prospects in the southeast, Mewborn (7-1-1, 1 NC) trains at the American Top Team-affiliated Hardcore Gym in Athens, Ga., which also produced current World Extreme Cagefighting bantamweight contender Brian Bowles and former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin.

Mewborn has posted three wins in four fights, losing only to “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 3 cast member Solomon Hutcherson in that span.

Meanwhile, Cale Yarbrough delivered his third straight victory with a unanimous decision against Brett Chism. Yarbrough (3-1) has not lost since he succumbed to strikes against Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Tim Credeur at UFC Fight Night 14 a year ago.

Ball Tops Berto at RFC 18

Jason Ball defeated EliteXC veteran James Edson Berto by split decision in the marquee match at Real Fighting Championships 18 “Pride” on Friday at the A La Carte Pavilion in Tampa, Fla. The once-promising Berto (15-7-1), still only 26, has fallen on hard times, as he has lost three of his last four fights.

Ball (15-8), a Cage Gladiators veteran who sharpened his skills at the Wolfslair Academy in England, has rattled off eight wins in 11 bouts, including two in a row.

In lightweight action, “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 5 cast member Allen Berubie edged Jack Murphy by split decision. The UFC veteran has posted back-to-back wins since he submitted to a rear-naked choke from current WEC featherweight contender Leonard Garcia at “The Ultimate Fighter 5” Finale in June 2007.
