Ronaldo Campos

28 year-old Brazilian Ronaldo Campos is the undisputed Cage Rage Welterweight champion, having successfully defended his title against all comers. Tomorrow he faces Paul "Hands of Stone" Jenkins, an experienced Welshman famed for his toughness and heavy hands. Sherdog.com caught up with Ronaldo to get his thoughts on the upcoming fight.

Sherdog: Hi Ronaldo, how are you feeling? How's the knee?

Ronaldo: The knee is recovering. I'm feeling okay. Certainly good enough to win!

Sherdog: You are fighting against Paul Jenkins, who you fought before in Extreme Brawl 6. He beat you that time. What happenned?

Ronaldo: I quit in the second round - I asked the referee to stop the fight. That fight did not come at a good time for me. I hadn't been trainning hard, I hadn't been feeling well. I slept bad, I ate bad, I trained bad, and by the second round I felt bad. I was okay in the first round and I was beating him, but I had nothing left in the second. It was just a bad time for me.

Sherdog: Will this fight be different?

Ronaldo: Absolutely. I've got a much better gameplan this time. I'm much better prepared.

Sherdog: Care to share?

Ronaldo: Well it's simple - I'm not going to let him escape positions as I let him do last time. I'll be looking to impose my gameplan on him. No stupidity - I'll take him down, plant him on the floor, control him and submit him. That's exactly what I've trained for, to maintain him on the floor for as long as possible, not to let him escape and so give myself the best opportunity to finish him. Last time it was a hard fight but this time, God willing, I'll get him.

Sherdog: How do you rate yourself as a fighter now? Where do you see yourself going?

Ronaldo: I see myself improving as a fighter, fight after fight. I've come a long way in terms of rounding myself out - I've improved my striking, my ground game, my wrestling. I'm becoming a lot better rounded, a lot better fighter.

Sherdog: You've recently spent some time training in the US, haven't you?

Ronaldo: Yes I have, I've been training at BTT Boston, and I'd like to thank Joao Amaral, Daniel Mirel and David Ginsberg for the help that they've given me. The US is a great place to live and train, plus I got to see Madonna for free.

Sherdog: Madonna?!

Ronaldo: It's not my style of music, but the show was great. And it was free!

Sherdog: Okay! What do you think of Paul Jenkins?

Ronaldo: I think he's a great fighter. He's well-rounded, and he's clearly one of the top guys in his weight. Definitely a good guy to beat.

Sherdog: Anything else you want to say?

Ronaldo: Yes, I just wanted to thank Mary, as always, for her support. I couldn't do it without her. Oh, and check out my website, at www.ronaldocampos.com.

Sherdog: Thanks Ronaldo, and good luck.
