Who Wants to Watch Decisions? Certainly not “Big Daddy”
Friday, July 29, 2005
by Mike Sloan (msloan@sherdog.com)

Gary Goodridge (pictures) is one of those guys that no matter who he faces in the ring or cage, chances are extremely high that the fight will be a memorable one.

“Big Daddy” is scheduled to participate in his second ever K-1 tournament Friday night in K-1 USA’s Hawaii. His first round opponent is none other than the popular Wesley “Cabbage” Correira. Of course, Goodridge expects nothing but knockouts in his fights and is looking to win the eight-man event.

Sherdog.com: Hey Gary. You told me after your last fight at “Battle at Bellagio” that you did not like the tournament set up.

Gary Goodridge: Yeah, I wasn’t very fond of the tournament set up. But hey, it’s a job, right?

Sherdog.com: What are your thoughts on the set up now? I mean you are fighting in another tournament.

Goodridge: I am still not fond of the tournament set-up because I don’t like having to train for three possible different styles of opponents. I prefer to train hard for just one guy, go out there and smash him and then go home. Having three fights in one night is not something I really enjoy, but it’s OK, I guess. I guess that means I get to f__k up three guys in one night.

Sherdog.com: With that said, why did you opt to fight in this Hawaii tourney? I thought you had a super-fight lined up for the Vegas show next month.

Goodridge: I was supposed to fight in a super-fight in the Las Vegas show, but K-1 offered me to fight in this tournament in Hawaii. It was a better deal, actually, so I decided to take this instead. I have to do what is better for me.

Sherdog.com: Does it matter to you who you fight this Friday? You are starting off against “Cabbage,” but the rest of the line-up is very tough as well.

Goodridge: It doesn’t matter who I fight. The most dangerous man in the tournament for me is Carter Williams (pictures). I would be fighting him in the second round, provided that we both are successful against our first-round opponents. But I wish he was further down the bracket so we could meet in the finals. Oh well, what can you do, you know?

Sherdog.com: What are your thoughts on “Cabbage”? He is very strong, has a granite chin, but was knocked out by Tank Abbott in his last bout.

Goodridge: Cabbage is a good guy. I know he is tough and the fight should be the best of the night because it’s me against “Cabbage.” He is a good fighter and he has a hard head. I am ready for whatever he brings.

Sherdog.com: You are fighting the man in his own backyard. Do you expect his fans to horribly boo and jeer you?

Goodridge: I don’t even know. I never, ever hear the crowd when I fight. They could yell and do whatever they want but it doesn’t matter because I won’t even notice them.

Sherdog.com: Obviously you want to knock everybody out, but would you be content to win the tournament with decisions?

Goodridge: I don’t want any of my fights to ever end in a decision. I want it to end with my guy being knocked out, whether it be because of cuts or because I put him to sleep. I don’t give a shit how it happens. I just want every one of my fights to not go to a decision. I want everything to end in a knockout and that is what I expect every time I fight. Who the f__k wants to watch a decision? Not my fans.
