Brian Knapp Aug 11, 2010
Bellator Fighting Championships veteran Waylon Lowe
will answer the bell against Steve Lopez
in a preliminary lightweight matchup at UFC
119 “Mir vs. Nogueira 2” on Sept. 25 at the Conseco Fieldhouse
in Indianapolis. Ten fights are now official for the event, which
will air live on pay-per-view.
Lowe has rattled off six wins in seven appearances but succumbed to a first-round knee from Melvin Guillard in his promotional debut at UFC 114 in May. The 29-year-old Jefferson City, Tenn., native was a three-time collegiate national wrestling champion at the Div. II level. Lowe trains out of the Joe Hand Boxing Gym in Philadelphia.
Based out of Midwest Martial Arts, Lopez has not competed since a
gruesome shoulder injury spoiled his first Octagon appearance
against AMA Fight Club standout Jim Miller at
UFC 103 in September. The South Bend, Ind., native has delivered
eight of his 12 career victories by knockout, technical knockout or
submission. Lopez wrestled collegiately at Bethel College in
Mishawaka, Ind.
A rematch between world-ranked heavyweights Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will headline UFC 119, along with a pivotal light heavyweight showdown between unbeaten “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 8 winner Ryan Bader and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. The event will also feature a lightweight duel pitting Guillard against Jeremy Stephens and a welterweight rematch pairing former champion Matt Serra with Chris Lytle. In addition, one-time UFC lightweight titleholder Sean Sherk will collide with the unbeaten Evan Dunham.
