2 UFC Fight Night 23 Prelims to Stream Live on Facebook

UFC officials today announced that two preliminary contests from the promotion’s “Fight for the Troops 2” event will be streamed live, for free, over social networking site Facebook.

The prelim stream will commence at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Saturday and will directly precede the Spike TV broadcast of the main card. The event, which emanates from Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, will help raise money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and will be headlined by a lightweight scrap between Melvin Guillard and Evan Dunham.

Streaming on Facebook will be bouts pitting “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 12 alum Cody McKenzie against seasoned veteran Yves Edwards in a lightweight duel and Michael Guymon against U.S. Army member DaMarques Johnson in a welterweight tilt.

In order to view the stream, fans must visit the UFC’s official Facebook page and click on the “like” button.

A master of the guillotine choke, McKenzie has earned 10 of his 12 career victories with the hold. The undefeated 23-year-old most recently earned “Submission of the Night” honors in his official Octagon debut at the “TUF 12” finale. There, McKenzie applied his trademark maneuver to housemate Aaron Wilkinson, causing the Brit to tap out at 2:03 of the first frame.

Edwards is a veteran of 56 professional contests and began his career in 1997. The 34-year-old has won five of his last six bouts and owns notable victories over Josh Thomson, Rich Clementi and Hermes Franca, twice.

Guymon, 36, made his UFC debut in January, submitting to young gun Rory MacDonald at UFC Fight Night 20. The “Joker” has since gone 1-1 with the promotion, most recently suffering a submission defeat to jiu-jitsu ace Daniel Roberts at UFC 121.

Runner-up on “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 9, Johnson is 2-2 in UFC competition. After dropping his debut to James Wilks at the season finale in June 2009, Johnson ran off two consecutive victories before losing to Matt Riddle at UFC Live 2 in August.
