The episode touched off a celebrity news frenzy, as TMZ.com was stationed outside the couple’s Huntington Beach home throughout the arrest and got video of Jameson with her father on multiple occasions. Ortiz had not been formally charged with a crime by week’s end, and posted a $25,000 bond on the day of his arrest to be released from police custody.
Ortiz and his attorney, Chip Matthews, held a press conference and pointed to Jameson’s issues with Oxycontin as the root cause of an argument, but denied laying a hand on Jameson. Ortiz’s attorney later retracted the statements, saying the pills Ortiz found in Jameson’s pants pocket were the root of a misunderstanding. Jameson’s attorney publicized a drug test that he said proved she did not have drugs in her the day of the incident. It did not appear Jameson will press further charges against Ortiz. Ortiz’s attorney told Sherdog.com Friday that both are interested in “bringing an end to this.”
Dana White told TMZ.com that he would to see police reports on the incident before he decided a penalty for Ortiz, but said a domestic violence rap is tough to shake and could lead to his being cut from the organization. The arrest came at a particularly inopportune time for the company, as Ortiz is being featured weekly on its well-watched “The Ultimate Fighter” series.
