Three undercard bouts have been added to Strikeforce “Diaz vs. Noons 2” on Oct. 9 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.
The three fights are a welterweight tilt between James Terry and Bret Bergmark, a lightweight matchup between Jess Bouscal and Luis Mendoza and a 185-pound scrap between Ron Keslar and Eric Lawson.
Terry, a member of Cung Le’s fight team based out of San Jose, Calif., is coming off a loss to Team Quest’s Tarec Saffiedine at Strikeforce Challengers 6. Prior to that bout, he earned back-to-back wins in his first two Strikeforce appearances, defeating Zak Bucia twice in 2009, first by decision and again by knockout via head kick.
Joining Team Cesar Gracie teammate Nick Diaz on the card, Bergmark is an eight-year veteran of the sport. After taking a two-year break from MMA, “The Angry Hick” returned in June 2010, earning a unanimous decision over Vagner Rocha at the Strikeforce/M1-Global co-promoted event “Fedor vs. Werdum.” His only loss came to Mike Pyle via triangle choke at WEC 17 in 2005.
Bouscal will be making his first Strikeforce appearance. The Total Combat and Pacific X-treme veteran has not fought since losing to Ryan Biglar at PXC 9 in 2006. Mendoza will make his professional debut on Oct. 9.
An American Kickboxing Academy fighter, Keslar is coming off a second-round knockout loss to Chris Cope in June. Prior to that defeat, Keslar ran off four straight wins in organizations such as Unleashed Fight and King of the Cage.
Lawson had run off five straight victories in Strikeforce before falling to a Wayne Phillips armbar in the first round of their February tussle. The Combat Fitness product is also a Gladiator Challenge veteran, going 5-2 during his time with that organization.
