The UFC today officially announced seven rumored contests for UFC 131.
Headlined by a heavyweight title confrontation between former champion Brock Lesnar and heavy-handed Brazilian Junior dos Santos, UFC 131 will go down from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Lesnar and Dos Santos opposed each other as coaches during the filming of “The Ultimate Fighter 13,” which is currently airing on Spike TV Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. ET.
Also scheduled for the main draw is a middleweight clash pitting hard-hitting wrestler Mark Munoz against Brazilian jiu-jitsu wizard Demian Maia. Additionally, Nova União product Diego Nunes will welcome two-time lightweight title challenger Kenny Florian to the featherweight ranks, as “Ken-Flo” makes his debut at 145 pounds. Also at featherweight, up-and-comer Dustin Poirier squares off with fellow WEC veteran Rani Yahya.
Three additions were also announced for the undercard Tuesday, as International Fight League veteran Krzysztof Soszynski will lock horns with Aussie Anthony Perosh at light heavyweight. Greg Jackson product Donald Cerrone will make his second appearance in the Octagon at the event, as “Cowboy” toes the line against seasoned veteran Mac Danzig. Rounding out the prelims will be another featherweight conflict, as Japanese import Michihiro Omigawa looks to rebound from a loss to Chad Mendes by besting Darren Elkins in the Hoosier's debut at 145 pounds.
Though not officially announced by the promotion today, a pair of heavyweight conflicts is expected for the event, as the returning Shane Carwin will likely meet the debuting Jon Olav Einemo, while tough-as-nails Joey Beltran buts heads with Sengoku vet Dave Herman.
