Anthony Johnson will collide with the world-ranked Charlie Brenneman in a featured welterweight matchup at UFC Live 6 “Cruz vs. Johnson” on Oct. 1 at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Eight fights are now official for the event, which will air live on the Versus network.

Johnson (9-3, 6-3 UFC) last appeared at UFC Fight Night 24 in March, when he cruised to a one-sided unanimous decision over former welterweight title contender Dan Hardy at the Key Arena in Seattle. One of the sport’s most imposing physical specimens, the 27-year-old Dublin, Ga., native has finished three UFC foes in less than a minute: Chad Reiner in 13 seconds, Yoshiyuki Yoshida in 41 seconds and Tom Speer in 51 seconds. Johnson wrestled collegiately at Lassen Community College in California, where he became a junior college national champion in 2004.

An upstart in the welterweight division, Brenneman (14-2, 3-1 UFC) has posted nine wins in his last 10 outings and will carry a two-fight winning streak into the cage. The 30-year-old Hollidaysburg, Pa., native last competed at UFC Live 4 in June, when he upset the world-ranked Rick Story on short notice at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. A former Ring of Combat champion, Brenneman trains out of the AMA Fight Club, alongside current lightweight contender Jim Miller, former WEC lightweight boss Jamie Varner and onetime International Fight League middleweight titleholder Dan Miller. Prior to his arrival as one of MMA’s top 170-pounders, Brenneman taught Spanish in junior high school and high school.

UFC Live 6 will be headlined by a five-round bantamweight title bout between champion Dominick Cruz and the once-beaten Demetrious Johnson, along with a heavyweight duel between powerful kickboxer Pat Barry and the 6-foot-11 Stefan Struve. In addition, “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 6 winner Mac Danzig will lock horns with Matt Wiman in a long-awaited rematch of their controversial UFC 115 encounter.
