ADCC 2015: Davi Ramos Finishes ‘Perfect’ Weekend with Flying Armbar Submission
SAO PAULO -- Davi Ramos
turned out to be one of the most impressive grapplers at ADCC 2015,
as he closed Sunday’s action by becoming the 170-pound bracket
champion.
Ramos won his semifinal match by submitting UFC fighter Gilbert Burns, then used a flying armbar to submit Lucas Lepri in the final. All told, Ramos forced three of his four opponents to tap over the course of the tournament.
“My weekend was excellent. It was perfect,” Ramos told Sherdog.com.
“I only wasn’t able to get the submission on my second fight
[because] I was a little ill on Saturday. I wasn’t feeling very
well. On Sunday, I woke up feeling a lot better and I knew it was
my day, so there it is: two submissions.”
Ramos was also the quickest to get things done in the finals, as fighters like Rodolfo Vieira and Felipe Pena went all the way to the 40-minute limit.
“As the fight can go as long as 40 minutes, people sometimes wait to go for it at the end,” said Ramos. “I didn’t do that. I was always thinking of submissions since the beginning. Thank God I managed to get that armbar.”
The Team Nogueira fighter was immediately clear on his career’s next step after the fight. Ramos said he hopes this achievement will open doors for him on his recently started MMA career.
“Now, I’ll focus myself on MMA once again,” he said. “Every ADCC champion earns a very good visibility, so I hope this trophy puts me one step closer to the UFC.”
