With Damian Grabowski off the UFC Fight Night 103 “Rodriguez vs. Penn” card next month, heavyweight contender Viktor Pesta needed an opponent. According to a report from MMAJunkie, it looks like Pesta will be grappling with the “Boa Constrictor.”
Alexey Oleynik has agreed to fill in on relatively shortly notice to face Pesta on the card, which goes down Jan. 15 at Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix. The card will begin on UFC Fight Pass before switching over to FS1, though an exact bout order has yet to be finalized.
Oleinik has been fighting since the early days of mixed martial arts and has already amassed 50 career wins. The Russian is coming off a majority decision loss to Daniel Omielanczuk at UFC Fight Night 91 in July. Pesta is looking to rebound off consecutive knockout losses to Marcin Tybura and Derrick Lewis; the Czech is just 1-3 inside the Octagon.
UFC Fight Night 103 will be anchored by a featherweight tilt between popular Mexican Yair Rodriguez and former lightweight and welterweight champion B.J. Penn. Marcin Held will oppose Joe Lauzon in the co-feature while Court McGee will collide with Ben Saunders. Other bouts on the marquee include Bryan Caraway versus Jimmie Rivera; Jussier Formiga against Sergio Pettis; and Augusto Mendes taking on Frankie Saenz, among others.
