Alistair Overeem: 'I Guarantee That' A Rematch With Ngannou Would Go Differently

Alistair Overeem may have righted the ship in Beijing last weekend, returning to the win column after two straight setbacks, but he is still looking to get at least one of those losses back.

“The Reem,” arguably the most decorated striker in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, notched an emphatic first-round TKO victory over previously undefeated Sergei Pavlovich at UFC Fight Night 141. Before toppling the undefeated Russian, Overeem had been on a two-fight skid, losing to Francis Ngannou by knockout last December and to his now-teammate Curtis Blaydes in a blood-spattered ground-and-pound TKO in June.

In the wake of his win, the 38-year-old set his sights on a rematch with Ngannou despite being on the end of a brutal knockout the last time the pair met. Speaking to reporters during the post-fight press conference in Beijing, Overeem expressed confidence in his new training environs would lead to a different result in a rematch (via MMAJunkie.com):

“I have a lot of respect for Francis Ngannou,” Overeem said. “But I’m very ready for a second fight. I can promise you the second fight will be different from the first fight. I made changes to my camp and I feel very energized, very motivated. The second fight will be different from the first fight, I guarantee that.”
