A bantamweight clash pitting Aljamain Sterling against Raphael Assuncao is set for the UFC’s Dec. 9 Fight Night event in Albany, N.Y.
ESPN.com’s Brett Okamoto first reported the bout on Twitter. UFC Fight Night 102 takes place at Times Union Center in Albany on a Friday night and streams in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass.
By winning his first 12 professional fights, including four in the Octagon, Sterling established himself as one of the sport’s top 135-pound prospects. He hit a roadblock in his most recent outing, however, dropping a split decision against Bryan Caraway at UFC Fight Night 88 in Las Vegas on May 29. The Serra-Longo Fight Team product has finished eight of his 12 victories inside the distance.
Once regarded as the No. 1 contender in the division after winning seven consecutive UFC bouts, Assuncao spent nearly two years on the sideline before returning at UFC 200, where he dropped a unanimous verdict to ex-champ T.J. Dillashaw. The 34-year-old Brazilian is 23-5 over the course of a professional career that began in 2004.
