EliteXC has signed
Eddie Alvarez (Pictures) to a long-term contract, the promotion announced Tuesday.
The former Bodog welterweight champion will co-headline the Jan. 25 ShoXC event at the Trump Taj Mahal Atlantic City Hotel & Casino.
"We know Eddie wasn't happy where he was, but I truly believe he's found a home here with EliteXC," said EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw. "With Eddie eventually dropping down to his more natural weight class, 160 pounds, and with the fighters we have at 160, he has a chance to be a big star if he keeps winning."
Alvarez has stopped 10 opponents in 11 wins. His only defeat is a second-round stoppage to
Nick Thompson (Pictures) in April 2007. He will face
Ross Ebanez (Pictures) (16-5), who trains with
B.J. Penn (Pictures), in a 170-pound fight.
In the co-feature,
Paul Daley (Pictures) (16-6-2) will meet
Sam Morgan (Pictures) (19-9) in a 160-pound bout.
