Amanda Nunes Aspires to Be Two-Division Champ, Calls for Holm-De Randamie Winner

Amanda Nunes wants to follow in the footsteps of Conor McGregor.

The reigning UFC bantamweight queen took to Twitter on Saturday night to call for the winner of the Holly Holm vs. Germaine de Randamie matchup at UFC 208. Holm and de Randamie will square off at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Feb. 11 for the promotion’s inaugural featherweight crown.

“I’m ready to make wmma history....I want the winner,” Nunes wrote.

Nunes captured the women’s bantamweight strap with a first-round submission of Miesha Tate at UFC 200. She then successfully made her first title defense with a 48-second technical knockout win over the returning Ronda Rousey at UFC 207 on Dec. 31.

If Nunes’ request is granted, it would presumably hold up the 135-pound weight class. While nothing is set in stone, it would appear that the next bantamweight No. 1 contender could emerge from the upcoming showdown between Valentina Shevchenko and Julianna Pena at UFC on Fox 23 on Jan. 28. Nunes already owns a unanimous decision victory over Shevchenko at UFC 196.

Conor McGregor became the first fighter in promotion history to become a simultaneous two-division champ after he beat Eddie Alvarez to claim 155-pound gold at UFC 205. However, the Irishman was forced to vacate the featherweight title he won over Jose Aldo at UFC 194 in December 2015 shortly thereafter.
