Andre Fili has suffered an undisclosed injury and is officially out of his bout with Sean Soriano at UFC Fight Night “Mousasi vs. Jacare” on Sept. 5. Chas Skelly will fill in against Soriano on short notice.
UFC officials announced the switch on Tuesday. The event takes place at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Conn., and is headlined by a middleweight bout between Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo Souza. The card, which goes head-to-head with Bellator 123 that same night, also includes a heavyweight clash pitting Alistair Overeem against Ben Rothwell.
Skelly was victorious in his second fight under the UFC banner at UFC Fight Night “Henderson vs. Dos Anjos,” finishing Tom Niinimaki in the opening round with a rear-naked choke. The 29-year-old has only lost once in his professional career, a decision defeat at the hands of Mirsad Bektic at UFC on Fox 11.
A Florida-based fighter who was born in Providence, R.I., Soriano tapped to a second-round rear-naked choke against Tatsuya Kawajiri in his UFC debut on Jan. 4. The 24-year-old is a former interim Championship Fighting Alliance titlist who began his professional career with eight straight victories.
