Angela Lee-Istela Nunes, Ben Askren-Agilan Thani Bouts Top May 26 One Championship

One Championship has spent the last several weeks piecing together its May return to Singapore. Now, the promotion confirmed that it's bringing out some its big guns.

Monday, One announced that its “Dynasty of Heroes” card will be feature a pair of title fights, with all four fighters sporting undefeated records: hot prospect Angela Lee stakes her 115-pound title against Brazilian hitter and fellow unbeaten Istela Nunes de Souza, while another unbeaten One champ, Ben Askren puts his 185-pound on the line against Agilan Thani. The company also confirmed that former One, Dream and Shooto champion Shinya Aoki would return to action, albeit not under MMA rules, as “The Tobikan Judan” will meet John Danaher understudy Garry Tonon in a grappling bout.

One also revealed several other bouts for the bill: 22-year-old Singaporean Amir Khan will face Rajinder Singh Meena, former One title challenger Luis Santos meets South African striking specialist Vuysile Colossa; three-time Lumpinee Stadium muay Thai champion Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke does battle with Indonesia's Adrian Matheis; Singapoean prospect Tiffany Teo squares off with Americna Rebecca Heintzman and Japanese-Thai 115-pounder Rika Ishige steps in against the Philippines' Jomary Torres.

One's “Dynasty of Heroes” takes play May 26 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.

The 20-year-old Lee has emerged as one of MMA's hottest prospects over the last two years, racking up a 7-0 mark since turning pro just 22 months ago, including six stoppages. The lone time that the Evolve MMA fighter heard the final bell was perhaps her breakthrough win, prevailing via 25-minute unanimous decision to claim 115-pound gold against Japanese veteran Mei Yamaguchi last May. Lee returned to action on March 11 of this year, dominating and punching out previously undefeated Taiwanese Jenny Huang.

Nunes, 24, also faced off with Yamaguchi, winning a 15-minute verdict over “V.V. Mei” last August. The Brazilian, a Sao Paulo native now training out of Parana Vale Tudo in Curitiba, moved to 5-0 with the win.

Askren has racked up a 15-0 mark in his pro MMA career, taking One Championship gold after leaving Bellator MMA while holding the promotion's welterweight title. This will be just Askren's second title defense, as the “Funky” one never got to have a rematch with “Sapo” Luis Santos in November 2015 after Santos missed weight and canceled the bout, then Russia's Nikolay Aleksakhin clocked in at 188 pounds for his bout with Askren in April of last year, taking the title off the table.

Malaysia's Thani sports a 7-0 pro mark with seven stoppages, the last six of those contests coming under the One Championship banner. The 21-year-old last saw action in February, choking out Jeff Huang in the second round.
