Artur Sowinski Triangle Choke Submits Lukasz Chlewicki in KSW 38 Headliner

Artur Sowinski dusted himself off and wasted little time in doing so.

In his first appearance since surrendering the Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki featherweight championship to Marcin Wrzosek in December, the Silesian Cage Club rep submitted Lukasz Chlewicki with a first-round triangle choke in the KSW 38 headliner on Friday in Warsaw, Poland. Chlewicki conceded defeat 1:51 into Round 1.

Sowinksi, 30, has won five of his last six fights.

In the co-main event, Lukasz Bienkowski continued to pick up steam, as he improved to 5-1 -- his only loss was the result of a disqualification -- with a hard-fought but well-earned unanimous decision against journeyman Antoni Chmielewski. All three judges sided with Bienkowski: 30-27, 30-28 and 30-28.

Chmielewski, 35, has suffered consecutive defeats for just the second time in his 39-fight career.

Meanwhile, Linke Gold Team prospect Roman Szymanski won for the 10th time in 11 outings, as he walked away with a unanimous decision over Denilson Neves de Oliveira in a three-round featherweight showcase. Scores were 30-25, 29-26 and 29-26, all for Szymanski.

Oliveira was his own worst enemy at times. The 21-year-old Brazilian floored Szymanski in the second round, only to be deducted a point for an errant axe kick to the groin. They were worlds apart on the ground, where the Pole controlled the vast majority of their exchanges.

In other action, Anzor Azhiev earned a unanimous decision against Kamil Selwa in the first bantamweight bout in KSW history, as he swept the scorecards with matching 29-28 marks; Lukasz Rajewski captured a unanimous verdict over Sebastian Romanowski in a three-round featherweight tilt, drawing 29-28 scores across the board; Maciej Kazieczko stopped Tomasz Matusewicz with punches 70 seconds into the first round of their lightweight pairing; Grzegorz Szulakowski chopped up Renato Gomes with elbows 4:19 into the third round of their encounter at 155 pounds; and Kamil Szymuszowski took a majority decision -- 29-28, 29-28, 28-28 -- from Gracjan Szadzinski in a three-round lightweight affair.
