Bantamweight Final 4 Hit Marks at Bellator 55 Weigh-ins

All four Season 5 bantamweight tournament semifinalists made the cut at Friday’s Bellator 55 weigh-ins, as Alexis Vila, Marcos Galvao, Ed West and EEduardo Dantas have all been given the green light to compete.

A 1996 Olympic bronze medalist in freestyle wrestling, Vila tipped the scales at 134.75 pounds for his bout with one-time Shooto 132-pound title contender Galvao (135.5). Former Bellator tournament finalist West came in at 135 pounds prior to his meeting with another former Shooto title challenger in Dantas (135).

Also featuring Bellator light heavyweight champion Christian M'Pumbu (201.75) in a non-title affair against Travis Wiuff (205), Bellator 55 emanates from the Cocopah Resort and Casino in Yuma, Ariz.

Vila wasted no time making waves in his Bellator debut, as the heavy-handed Cuban knocked reigning featherweight champion Joe Warren senseless in the bantamweight tournament quarterfinals. With the win, the 40-year-old extended his career unbeaten streak to a perfect 10-0, earning seven knockouts along the way.

Galvao rebounded from a controversial unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Warren, earning a split nod over Chase Beebe on Sept. 24 to advance to the tournament semis. Prior to his loss to Warren, Galvao had won three straight fights, capturing the Ring of Combat featherweight title in the process.

A four-time Bellator vet, West came close to capturing the promotion's inaugural 135-pound title in Season 3. The 27-year-old bested Bryan Goldsby and Jose Vega to advance to the final, but was outwrestled in a five-round unanimous decision defeat by current titlist Zach Makovsky at Bellator 32 last year.

Only 22 years old, Dantas has stumbled only twice in his four-year pro career. Following his failed bid at the Shooto 132-pound world title, the Brazilian has earned four straight wins, most recently knocking out Wilson Reis in spectacular fashion in Bellator 51's tournament quarterfinals.
