Cat Zingano will lock horns with Julianna Pena in a bantamweight clash at UFC 200.
The promotion confirmed the bout on Thursday following an initial report from espnW.com . UFC 200 takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 9 and is headlined by a welterweight tilt between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor. The Zingano-Pena winner will be “in the running” for a 135-pound title shot, according to the report.
Zingano has been sidelined since her 14-second submission loss to Ronda Rousey at UFC 184 in February 2015. That was the first career defeat for Zingano, who owns notable triumphs over current 135-pound champ Miesha Tate and No. 1 contender Amanda Nunes.
Pena was recently cleared to return to the Octagon after the UFC concluded a third-party investigation into assault allegations against the fighter levied late last year. “The Venezuelan Vixen” is 3-0 in the promotion, including a unanimous decision triumph over Jessica Eye in her last outing at UFC 192.
