A rumored clash between Sarah Kaufman and Jessica Eye is now official for UFC 166.
Promotion officials announced the matchup on Friday. As a result, a planned 135-pound showdown between Francisco Rivera and George Roop has been moved from the Oct. 19 card to UFC Fight for the Troops 3 on Nov. 6. UFC 166 takes place at the Toyota Center in Houston and is headlined by a heavyweight title tilt between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos.
A former Strikeforce titlist, Kaufman was originally scheduled to face Sara McMann at UFC Fight Night 27, but an injury to McMann resulted in the cancellation of that bout. The 27-year-old Canadian last competed at Invicta FC 5, taking a split decision against Leslie Smith. Prior to that victory, Kaufman challenged current UFC women’s bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey at Strikeforce “Rousey vs. Kaufman” more than a year ago, losing via armbar in 54 seconds.
Eye is one of the most recent additions to the UFC roster. “Evil” posted a 3-0 mark for Bellator before receiving her release when the promotion dissolved its women’s division earlier this month. In her most recent fight, Eye won a three-round verdict over Carina Damm at NAAFS “Fight Night in the Flats 9.”
