Bellator 118 Weigh-Ins: Warren Cleared for Interim Title Tilt; Silva Misses Mark
Rafael
Silva checked in at 136.9 pounds at Thursday’s Bellator 118
weigh-ins, costing himself a shot at the promotion’s interim
bantamweight crown.
Joe Warren, meanwhile, weighed in without issue, tipping the scales at 134.6 pounds ahead of Friday’s main event, which takes place at Revel Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J., and airs live on Spike TV. While the fight will remain five rounds, only Warren is eligible to go home with the belt.
Warren was originally scheduled to lock horns with reigning
champion Eduardo
Dantas in the evening’s main event, but “Dudu” was forced to
withdraw from the bout recently due to a head injury sustained in
training. In his place steps Silva, who was supposed to challenge
Dantas last month at Bellator 111 before a knee injury placed him
on the sideline.
The Bellator 118 main card will also see Andrey Koreshkov (171) lock horns with Justin Baesman (170.6), who replaces Sam Oropeza in the Season 10 welterweight tournament semifinals after Oropeza failed to make weight for the third time in his last four outings. Additionally, onetime bantamweight title challenger Marcos Galvao (136.8) returns to action against undefeated prospect Thomas Vasquez (134.6) in a 137-pound catch-weight affair. Just prior, unbeaten light heavyweights Liam McGeary (204) and Mike Mucitelli (205) will square off in the opening round of the 2014 Summer Series tourney.
The evening’s undercard will be streamed live on Spike.com, highlighted by a featherweight showdown between NCAA Division I wrestling champion Darrion Caldwell (145.8) and Joe Pingitore (145.9).
