Bellator 140 Weigh-in Results: Lima, Koreshkov Cleared for Welterweight Title Tilt

By Tristen Critchfield Jul 16, 2015

More than a year after he captured Bellator’s welterweight crown, Douglas Lima is ready to make his first title defense.

Both Lima (170) and his opponent, Andrey Koreshkov (170), made weight on Thursday ahead of their headlining showdown at Bellator 140. The event takes place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on Friday night and airs on Spike TV at 9 p.m. ET. The preliminary draw streams on beginning at 7 p.m. ET.

Lima, 27, is 8-1 during his Bellator tenure, with his only loss coming at the hands of departed former champion Ben Askren. He enters the bout on a five-fight winning streak, including a second-round stoppage of Rick Hawn at Bellator 117 to become the promotion’s third 170-pound king. Lima has been sidelined by injury since that April 2014 triumph.

The 24-year-old Koreshkov has been out of action nearly as long, as he has not appeared since taking a unanimous verdict over Adam McDonough at Bellator 122 last July. Like Lima, Koreshkov’s only loss in Bellator came against Askren. “Spartan” has won four straight since that defeat.
