Bellator 148 Update: Tony Johnson-Raphael Butler Heavyweight Bout Added to Main Card

American Academy Kickboxing heavyweight prospect Tony Johnson will square off with Raphael Butler in a main card bout at Bellator 148.

Promotion officials announced the bout on Wednesday. Bellator 148 takes place at Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif., on Jan. 29 and is headlined by a welterweight duel pitting Paul Daley against Andy Uhrich. The evening’s main draw airs on Spike TV at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT.

In addition to Johnson-Butler, four new preliminary contests were revealed for Bellator 148: Ilima-Lei Macfarlane vs. Amber Tackett at flyweight; Mason Fowler vs. Idris Wasi at welterweight; Mark Dickman vs. Ousmane Thomas Diagne at featherweight; and Paul Ruiz vs. Josh San Diego at bantamweight .

Johnson made his promotional debut on April 10, when he took a split-verdict over former heavyweight titlist Alexander Volkov at Bellator 136. Johnson is 9-2 during his professional tenure and owns notable victories over Tim Sylvia, Derrick Lewis and Tony Lopez.

Butler competed once in 2015, submitting Josh Diekmann with a guillotine choke just 64 seconds into their encounter at Bellator 134 this past February. “The Silencer” is 9-1-1 overall and has finished all of his triumphs by knockout, technical knockout or submission.
