By Tristen Critchfield Jan 25, 2017

Brennan Ward wound up on Paul Daley’s personal highlight reel at Bellator 170, and now he’ll be facing a lengthy layoff until he receives medical clearance.

Ward, who was knocked out by a flying knee 2:27 into the opening round of his welterweight encounter with Daley, has been suspended indefinitely pending neurologist clearance with a CT scan. He is also suspended 60 days with no contact unless cleared by a physician for a laceration on his left eye. At a minimum, Ward is suspended 45 days with 30 days of no contact due to a KO defeat.

The California State Athletic Commission recently released a full list of medical suspensions to MMAFighting.com. Bellator 170 took place at the Forum in Los Angeles this past Saturday and saw Tito Ortiz submit Chael Sonnen with a rear-naked choke in the first round of their light heavyweight headlining bout. Both Ortiz and Sonnen received mandatory seven-day medical suspensions.

Also of note, preliminary fighter Christian Gonzalez was handed an indefinite suspension for an unreported stab wound prior to the fight and for chest pain. Gonzalez suffered a second-round technical knockout loss against Daniel Rodriguez in the first bout of the evening.

Additionally, four fighters from Bellator 170 received potential six-month layoffs: Derek Anderson (tooth), Jamar Ocampo (jaw/rib), Rob Gooch (wrist) and Jack May (forearm).
