Tyrell Fortune vs. Giovanni Sarran

Round 1

Fortune jabs his way inside and grabs a brief double-collar tie. He pummels back to the position and starts drilling Sarran with knees to the head while Sarran digs to the body in retaliation. Fortune ducks into a single-leg takedown and gets it without much effort. Sarran plays for wrist control, but Fortune immediately postures up, lands a stream of left hands and gets a rear waistlock when his man tries to stand up. Sarran already bleeding from the nose now as Fortune drags him back down to the mat. Another steady salvo of shots on the floor as Fortune punches under the armpit and ragdolls Sarran back to the mat, then begins launching left hands now. Fortune alternating between single-leg rides and working from the side of turtle position. Hammerfists to the side of the head landing now and Sarran simply just can’t get back to his feet. Easy 10-9 for Tyrell Fortune.

Round 2

Fortune works his jab then shoots and hits a knee tap to dump Sarran on the mat. Fortune forces Sarran to turtle and land some short punches while forcing his foe to carry his weight. Sarran nearly gets back to his feet, but Fortune re-shoots and puts him down flat, moving into back control and flattening him out. Fortune creeps his mount higher while landing left hands. Sarran gets one hook free, but Fortune is relentless. It’s not gruesome ground-and-pound, but Sarran simply has no way to fend off the physical wrestling. Fortune postures high from a back quarter guard and smashes away with hammerfists and elbows until referee Frank Trigg has to step in to rescue the overwhelmed Sarran.

Joey Davis vs. Craig Plaskett

Round 1

Davis feints briefly before shooting a long-distance double-leg takedown. Plaskett stuffs it briefly, but Davis gets an underhook and shucks him over. Plaskett eats a few shots as he gets to his knees, but is able to stand and escape from a headlock to reset at distance. Davis looking for spinning back kicks off of his single punches, but nothing is landing yet. Plaskett finally steps forward and Davis lands a reaction double-leg takedown, driving “Grasshopper” to turtle, then forcing him to his back. Plaskett turns his back to try to stand, but Davis gets a single-leg ride and holds him down until the bell. 10-9 Davis in the opening frame.

Round 2

The second stanza begins with more feinting and jabbing, but the minute Plaskett commits to a combination, Davis changes levels and dumps him on the mat with a double along the fence. Plaskett tries to scramble up and Davis nearly takes full mount, prompting his man to turn over which allows him to briefly threaten a rear-naked choke from a back quarter guard. Plaskett tries to buck and get up to his knees again, but Davis has arm laced and has complete wrestling control from top position. Heavy stream for left hands connect for Davis. Plaskett rolls as he’s being pounded and gets a grasp on Davis’ right leg. He briefly looks for a kneebar and then a toe hold, but Davis is content to wait the round out. Another 10-9 round for Joey Davis.

Round 3

It's rinse and repeat in the third round. Davis shoots a power double quickly, gets his man to the mat and rides his hip, pounding away. Plaskett tries to get up, but gets no further than his knees before Davis drives him back down to the mat. More left hands land for Davis, then he gets to half guard and lands a hard salvo of elbows that rip Plaskett's face open. Plaskett gets to full guard, then eats a nasty right elbow that really makes the plasma start to flow. Davis keeps chipping away with punches and elbows as Plaskett is completely exhausted and just simply trying to protect himself. In the waning moments of the bout, Plaskett rolls for another leglock, but there's nothing there. This is a 30-27 Joey Davis shutout.

Ed Ruth vs. Andy Murad

Round 1

Ruth lands a few quick punches while feeling Murad out. Predictably, he then shoots and puts his man on the floor and begins rifling him with short punches. Murad gets up and surprisingly goes for a single-leg takedown of his own, but Ruth hits an effortless go-behind, then trips Murad onto his face, landing more punches. Murad tries to get up, but he is absorbing knees to the ribcage now. Ruth flattens his man out and pounds away until the first-round bell. Easy 10-9 for Ed Ruth.

Round 2

Murad is chopping away at Ruth's lead leg with inside and outside low kicks, forcing Ruth to switch stances briefly, but the former Penn State Nittany Lion continues to land his right hand over the top from both stances, drawing blood from above Murad's left eye. Ruth starting to use his counter jab as Murad walks in, repeatedly dinging his target. Ruth is eating leg kicks, but he seems wholly unperturbed as he continues to calmly bloody up his opponent. Ruth with a hard outside low kick now, then he smacks Murad with another overhand right from the southpaw position. “Easy Ed” goes back to orthodox, lands a left kick to the body and continues to land steady streams of punches all over Murad. In the final 10 seconds, Ruth puts his man's back to the cage and swarms him with deliberate, clean crosses. Right as the bell rings, referee Jason Herzog intervenes to save Murad from any further punishment.

Juan Archuleta vs. Robbie Peralta

Round 1

An aggressive Archuleta immediately back Peralta up with a rush of punches and a quick takedown. Archuleta with a rear waistlock, drilling Peralta with knees. Once Peralta gets free, Archuleta dings him with a flying knee, then drives him to the canvas again. Peralta is able to get back to his feet, but he eats punches on the way up. Archuleta refuses to let him off the hook, rushing him with punches and driving his man’s back into the cage, pummeling for a takedown. Peralta is able to thwart an outside trip and escape off the fence and the pair go back to striking at distance. Archuleta launches a three-punch combination, then tries a capoeira-style banana kick, which Peralta blocks, then tags him in retaliation before the horn. 10-9 Archuleta.

Round 2

Archuleta rushes Peralta again, glancing with winging punches and then shooting in. Peralta is able to stuff him and hold him in the clinch, but Archuleta continues to pummel and eventually hits an outside trip. Peralta gets right back up and lands a hard right hook. Archuleta is relentless with his relentless, driving his man into the fence, while Peralta controls his hands and staves off the takedown. They separate, and Archuleta wings more shots at Peralta, but the UFC veteran tags him on the way in. Archuleta briefly separates, lands two hooks, then drives in for another takedown. Peralta thwarts it again. They return to range and as the round is winding down, Archuleta resumes the same winging-and-shooting combination. Peralta lands a good shot on his foe’s entry, but Archuleta reaps his leg and drags him back to the mat at the end of the round. 10-9 Archuleta again.

Round 3

Peralta is more aggressive to begin the final round, perhaps sensing he is behind. He wades in behind a few punches, then Archuleta fakes a double-leg takedown, ducking down and then ripping a massive overhand right up top. Peralta collapses in the middle of the cage in a heap, and Archuleta dives on top with a volley of hammerfists, prompting referee Mark Smith to jump into action. All of a sudden, the bout is done in the blink of an eye, just 14 seconds into the final frame.

Valerie Letourneau vs. Kristina Williams

Round 1

Williams with liberal kicking offense early, but Letourneau tags her with the counter jab whenever she opens up. Two sharp right crosses from Letourneau when Williams tries to open up. Williams briefly stumbles Letourneau to the mat, but “Trouble” shrimps back to the fence and cautiously regains her feet. Williams goes for a reverse hook kick, but Letourneau drills her with a right hook that puts her on the mat, then dives into top position and pounds away. Williams defends smartly and ties up Letourneau on top. Williams looks for an armbar from guard and though she gets her hips high, Letourneau turns, stacks her up and yanks her arm out. Williams locks up a body triangle to slow action down from the bottom and it pays dividends, as referee Rob Madrigal stands the pair up. However, Williams is unable to capitalize on the feet before the bell. 10-9 Letourneau.

Round 2

Both women duel with outside low kicks early on. Letourneau goes high and glances Williams, who returns in kind with a right kick to the body. The flyweights flurry and Williams lands her right hook, backing Letourneau up. Williams lunges with an overhand right and eats a quick two-piece for her efforts. Another quick flurry with Williams getting the better of things, dinging the American Top Team fighter with two hooks. Letourneau responds with a lead left hook, then both women go into a single-collar tie and smash each other momentarily a la Don Frye-Yoshihiro Takayama. Clean left body kick lands for Letourneau, but Williams tags her over the top. Letourneau steps inside, but she eats a right elbow from Williams. Inside low kick-right cross lands for Letourneau, but she’s countered in return. 10-9 Williams.

Round 3

Williams closes the distance quickly, and the bout turns into “Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots” for a brief moment, with both women getting as good as they’ve got. Letourneau’s right eye is showing damage as Williams’ nose begins to leak. The former UFC title challenger walks Williams down, then ducks her foe’s kick attempt, setting up shop on top. Williams is overhooking Letourneau’s arms in hope of a standup, but “Trouble” continues to break her posture and chip away. Referee Rob Madrigal eventually consents to Williams’ overtures and stands the pair up with 75 seconds left. Williams tries to walk Letourneau down, but as soon as she kicks to the body, Letourneau tackles her to the mat and rides out the round as the Oklahoma native looks for a triangle. 10-9 Letourneau in the third frame, giving her the bout 29-28 overall on the Sherdog.com scorecard.

Saad Awad vs. Ryan Couture

Round 1

After a brief feeling-out process, Awad lands a salvo of punches and drives Couture into the fence, pummeling for a takedown. Couture is able to corral Awad and get a front headlock, kneeing away until they break off the fence. Awad wades back in with a pair of hooks, winding up with over-unders in close, but it’s Couture who turns him around and muscles him briefly. Awad gets free and lands a pair of hooks, then returns fire with a hard right hand. Awad goes back to the well and lands another heavy right cross, stumbling Couture backwards to the fence. Couture tries to launch a right head kick to back his man up, but Awad continues to swarm, unloading with both hands, and interspersing knees. Couture is just covering up now. Awad digs to the body, then goes upstairs and again and lets loose with everything he has. Awad continues winging away on a shuttering Couture, and right as he starts to fold to the mat, referee Jason Herzog intervenes.

Bellator 125-Pound Women's Title Fight:

Ilima-Lei Macfarlane vs. Alejandra Lara

Round 1

Lara lands an inside low kick and then a quick right hook that stumbles the champion briefly, but Macfarlane powers through, getting to the clinch but as she tries to trip her challengers, she’s reversed to her back. Macfarlane working rubber guard and trying to secure mission control, but Lara breaks her posture and pounds away. Macfarlane switches to an armbar and as Lara looks to spin, she locks in a loose triangle. The champion tripods up and drives her head into the chest of Lara, biding her time. Macfarlane tries to adjust her grip and Lara bucks back, breaking the hold. Immediately off the disengagement, Macfarlane tries to scramble to her feet and eats a few shots to end the round. 10-9 Macfarlane for her active guard grappling.

Round 2

Macfarlane more aggressive to the start the second period, immediately throwing punches and walking Lara back down to the fence. Lara stops the initial takedown, but the champion drives through and gets her to the mat, then quickly passes to side mount. Lara recovers a quarter guard and is trying to jump back to her feet. Macfarlane stays patient, pounding away and making Lara open up defensively. The minute the Colombian tries to regain her feet, Macfarlane dives onto her back with one hooks, then slowly snaking the second one in. Macfarlane continues to threaten from back control until the round ends. 10-9 Macfarlane.

Round 3

Lara lands an inside low kick and then a quick right hook that stumbles the champion briefly, but Macfarlane powers through, getting to the clinch but as she tries to trip her challengers, she’s reversed to her back. Macfarlane working rubber guard and trying to secure mission control, but Lara breaks her posture and pounds away. The Bellator champ slowly adjusts and budges her hips to pop Lara’s elbow. The Colombian makes one last attempt to sweep her leg over Macfarlane’s body to break her posture, but it’s all for naught. She’s trapped and is forced to tap, as Ilima-Lei Macfarlane records her first successful Bellator MMA title defense.
