Bellator 293 ‘Golm vs. James’ Play-by-Play, Results & Round Scoring

Maria Henderson (115.4) vs. Mackenzie Stiller (115.4)

Round 1

The first fight of the night is overseen by referee Jonathan Romero. Stiller takes the center of the cage and Henderson looks to counter from a distance. Henderson lands a nice body kick but gets dropped by an overhand right by Stiller. Henderson searches for a leglock but can't get it. Stiller works on top and does some solid damage with punches. Henderson has her back taken. Stiller is throwing punches and transitions into mount. Henderson locks up but then gives up her back. Punches rain down from Stiller and is staying fully in control. Stiller goes for an armbar. It takes a bit but Henderson taps to the tight lock after being unable to squirm out.

Bryce Meredith (135.6) vs. Brandon Carrillo (135.4)

Round 1

Frank Trigg is the third man inside the cage. Meredith wastes no time and shoots for a takedown. The back of Carrillo is taken, and Meredith begins landing some solid punches. Carrillo begins standing and tries to shake Meredith off but is forced back down. Carrillo finally shakes him off but can't get back to his feet and is taken down once again. Meredith takes the back again and eventually starts looking for a rear-naked choke. Carrillo is able to survive for a while but is put in danger when he tries to stand. Meredith can't get the choke but dominates the rest of the round with some hard punches.

Round 2

Like clockwork, Meredith gets a quick takedown. Carrillo is one again mounted and then gets his back taken. Meredith looks for an arm-triangle choke for a while but abandons it after not finding success. Carrillo has his back taken again, and a tight choke is locked in by Meredith. Carrillo doesn't want to tap but is forced to submit as he is about to go out. A truly one-sided wrecking by Meredith.

Randi Field (120) vs. Ashley Cummins (119.2)

Round 1

Jason Herzog is the referee. Both women take the center of the cage and feel each other out. No one has done much damage, but Field is scoring some with sharp punches. Field is flaunting the jab out. Cummins is able to secure a takedown and Field looks for a guillotine choke. Cummins pops her head out and settles in guard. Field is staying active and looks for an omoplata. Cummins escapes and ends the round landing some elbows to the body.

Round 2

Cummins takes the center and starts throwing tepid strikes. Field is showing a bit more pep and opens with a leg kick. Neither woman coming close to hurting the other on the feet with punches. Another leg kick lands for Field, which is slowing down Cummins. Field is staying slightly busier on the feet and throwing the occasional kick. Field starts throwing to the body, which adds a nice variety to the attack. Nice jab work from Field, as Cummins has little to offer on the feet. The round was all Field.

Round 3

Cummins looks for a takedown to start Round 3 but eats a knee and backs off. Cummins is much slower than Field. Cummins is able to land a calf kick, and Field answers with two kicks of her own. Field is backing up her opponent and landing her jab effectively. Field is continually throwing a jab and then a straight behind it. However, the repetitiveness is still routinely stinging Cummins. A desperate takedown lands for Cummins, but Field starts attacking immediately and has an active guard. Cummins stands up and Field gets to her feet. Field continues to push forward in the final minute and should sweep the scorecards as she was always in control.

Round 1

Raphael Davis is inside the cage to officiate. Gibson opens up with a kick to the body and takes the center of the cage. Tokov goes for a trip but is unsuccessful. Gibson enters with a body kick to rush his foe but a short left hand from Tokov floors his opponent. Tokov rains down punches and the fight is stopped. A shocking KO.

Lucas Brennan (145.4) vs. Josh San Diego (146)

Round 1

Jonathan Romero is refereeing this bout. Brennan clinches San Diego against the cage and works to get his opponent down. Brennan is able to get to the back as San Diego stands. Brennan looks for a rear-naked choke. He locks it in and San Diego falls to the floor before tapping out. Easy work for Brennan.

Joey Davis (169.2) vs. Jefferson Creighton (169.8)

Round 1

Frank Trigg has the assignment. Davis lands an early takedown and puts Creighton on his back. Creighton works his way to his knees but is pulled back down. Davis is in half guard and begins landing light punches. Creighton begins to stand up again but is pulled back down again. Creighton lands some light elbows to the body as the referee tells the men to work. Davis is just holding on, and Creighton gets back to his knees. Creighton finally gets back to his feet and they end the round clinched with Davis landing some knees.

Round 2

Creighton has a better start to the second frame as he's able to stay upright and work his jab a bit in the opening minute. Creighton lands a body kick but is taken down again by Davis afterward. Davis is in half guard but is just focusing on securing the wrists of Creighton. Very little damage while on the ground. Creighton looks to get up but is unable to. Trigg stands the fight up after getting sick of the stalling. Davis lands a leg kick and then secures a takedown. Creighton is able to bounce back up to his feet. The round ends with the two men against the fence after Davis goes for another takedown and eats a few elbows for doing son.

Round 3

Creighton opens with a nice left hand and then stuffs two takedowns. However, Davis is relentless and continues pursuing a takedown. Davis lifts up Creighton and sits him down. Creighton gets back to his feet and lands several hard elbows. Davis gets another takedown. Creighton gets back to the feet and starts landing sharp elbows to the body. Davis is purely grappling and not striking any. Short elbows and knees are scoring for Creighton, who hurts Davis with an uppercut. A big round so far for Creighton, who is really doing well. Trigg separates the men, but Davis goes for another takedown and they're in the same position seconds later. Creighton scores wth some elbows before Davis puts him on his back again. The round ends with Creighton landing punches.

Round 1

Jason Herzog will oversee the action. Sorenson comes out aggressive with leg kicks but is eating punches from Collins. The two clinch and go against the cage. Sorenson stays active with knees in the clinch but gets tripped and taken down. Collins grabs a headlock and lands several punches. Collins traps the arm of Sorenson and locks in a crucifix. Sorenson doesn't have much defense here and is just eating punches against the cage. Collins patiently works from the scarf hold and locks in an armlock for a submission win as Sorenson taps.

Adam Piccolotti (156) vs. Mandel Nallo (154.8)

Round 1

The referee is Raphael Davis. Piccolotti lands a nice right hand over the top of Nallo's guard. Piccolotti is patient but moving forward and looking for his openings. Nallo throws a high kick that is caught. Piccolotti is popping out his jab effectively. A left hook lands for Piccolotti. Nallo lands a nice right hand as Piccolotti enters and then throws a front kick. Piccolotti goes for a takedown, but Nallo defends it well. However, Piccolotti doesn't give up and picks up Nallo, who pops back up and gets slammed again. Piccolotti takes the back and looks for a rear-naked choke. Nallo tries to get back up but Piccolotti stays in control and goes into mount, which he uses to land several hard punches. Nallo gets back to his feet with 30 seconds left. Piccolotti lands some foot stomps as the round expires.

Round 2

Nallo opens up with some spinning kicks, including one to the liver. Piccolotti eats a head kick and Nallo doubles up with it. Nallo is loose and throwing well. Nallo throws out his jab before landing several leg kicks. Piccolotti is really getting outclassed on the feet and then smartly goes for a takedown attempt. Piccolotti grabs the back as they're both standing. Knees land to the legs for Piccolotti. Nallo reverses and is able to escape. Nallo steps in with his jab. Piccolotti eats another jab trying to get into distance. Piccolotti goes for a low single-leg takedown and drags Nallo down. Piccolotti goes for an arm triangle choke but gives up on it as Nallo scrambles back to his feet. The round ends with them separating.

Round 3

Piccolotti comes out aggressive and is caught off-balance by Nallo, who lands a right hand. Piccolotti ducks under a punch and secures a takedown. Nallo's back is taken. Piccolotti starts cranking the face of Nallo, then switches to punches. Piccolotti is in full control and landing thudding elbows and punches while in mount. Piccolotti switches to the back and locks in a tight rear-naked choke, but Nallo defends the hands well and is able to get out of it. Piccolotti lands several hard punches and goes for another rear-naked choke. Nallo has no quit in him and defends again. He escapes but Piccolotti is able to get another choke locked in in the ensuing scramble. This time it's a charm as Nallo finally taps.

Mike Hamel (155.6) vs. Nick Browne (155.6)

Round 1

Frank Trigg is the referee. Both men waste no time as they come out throwing. Browne lands several punches and looks confident. A huge head kick from Hamel knocks down Browne. Hamel follows up with hammerfists, and the fight is stopped despite the protest of Browne. A very impressive showing of explosiveness by Hamel.

Christian Edwards (237.8) vs. Rakim Cleveland (240.4)

Round 1

Our final preliminary bout will be overseen by Jonathan Romero. Edwards opens with leg kicks. Cleveland answers back with a few kicks of his own and then throws a big combination. Edwards rushes his opponent against the fence and is able to get a takedown. Edwards lands elbows from half guard. Cleveland is defending well and keeping Edwards from progressing or doing much damage. The round ends with Edwards taking the back and then landing a few punches.

Round 2

Cleveland lands a big right hand to start the round to remind Edwards to respect his power. A body kick from Edwards lands. The pace has slowed, but Edwards lands a solid right hand from a distance. Edwards clinches Cleveland against the cage. They separate and Edwards is able to land leg kicks. Cleveland lands a right hook and connects with a jab. A big high kick by Cleveland is blocked by Edwards, who charges forward and clinches against the fence. They separate, and the round ends with Cleveland having landed the bigger shots throughout.

Round 3

Edwards opens the round looking to grapple and gets Cleveland up against the cage. They separate and exchange hard leg kicks. Edwards lands another kick before throwing wild punches that miss. The two clinch, and Cleveland lands a big right hand. A jab from Edwards misses, and Cleveland lands a leg kick. Two minutes remain. Edwards misses with a head kick and Cleveland answers with a leg kick. The two clinch, with Cleveland looking for a standing guillotine choke after landing a knee. Edwards allegedly taps, although the referee misses it. Cleveland then informs the referee, and the fight is stopped. It takes a few minutes but Edwards eventually complains about the stoppage afterward and his team says they'll appeal.

Sullivan Cauley (205.8) vs. Luke Trainer (205.2)

Round 1

Jason Herzong will kick off the main card. Cauley immediately clinches and secures a takedown. Trainer tries to get up but gets pulled back to the floor. Trainer looks for a guillotine choke, but Cauley isn't in danger and pops his head out. Trainer gets back to the feet, and Cauley lands a knee. Trainer is able to trip Cauley and then gets the back of his opponent. Trainer is able to sink in a rear-naked choke and leans back. Cauley tries not to give up, but he's forced to tap as he is going to lose consciousness.

Archie Colgan (155.4) vs. Justin Montalvo (154.4)

Round 1

Refereeing this lightweight encounter is Raphael Davis. Both men look to strike. Colgan strikes first with a big right hand that hurts Montalvo. Realizing his power is hurting his opponent, Colgan pressures Montalvo and lands some damaging uppercuts. Montalvo shows heart and is able to endure the onslaught, which causes Colgan to switch gears and go for a takedown. Montalvo gets back up, and Colgan lands a sharp right hand. Montalvo isn't backing down and keeps going forward. However, a right hand from Colgan drops Montalvo, who springs up and then eats an uppercut. Colgan swarms his fallen foe and gets the stoppage with a number of swinging punches. A really impressive showing for Colgan.

John Salter (185.8) vs. Aaron Jeffery (185.2)

Round 1

Jonathan Romero is in the cage for this middleweight encounter. Jeffery takes the center of the cage. Salter is having to circle away from the pressure of Jeffery, who lands a solid right hand that forces Salter to shoot. The takedown attempt is successful and Salter begins work from half guard. Salter is staying busy with punches to the body as Jeffery attempts to use the cage to get up. Salter reestablishes position and isn't in any rush to advance position. Jeffery hasn't been in much danger but is certainly losing the round. 30 seconds left. Jeffery gets up and Salter tries to trip him, but Jeffery lands on top in guard. The round ends with Jeffery unable to take advantage of the position.

Round 2

Jeffery opens with leg kicks and takes the center of the cage. Salter is getting pressured against the fence and then happily clinches. Jeffery stays busier in the clinch with knees and elbows. Salter throws a head kick after they separate but it is blocked. However, Salter barrels forward with a takedown and ends up on top with over half a round left. Salter gets in half guard and starts punching the body. Salter stays in full control and half takes the back as the round expires. Not very exciting but Salter definitely controlled the action.

Round 3

Salter's game plan is well established at this point, and he once again looks to grapple. Salter is able to backpack Jeffery and is hanging on to his back while standing. Jeffery is unable to shake Salter off and has been carrying him for over a minute. Salter is looking to maintain position and isn't looking for a choke. It's now been two minutes. Jeffery starts elbowing the thigh of Salter to no effect. It has now been over three minutes of Salter sitting on his opponent's back. 30 seconds left, and they are in the same position. Salter hangs on for the final thirty seconds while never looking to finish the fight. Dreadful in terms of action, but it will get him a decision win. In the post-fight interview, Salter announces his retirement.

Cat Zingano (145.2) vs. Leah McCourt (145.4)

Round 1

The co-main event is being overseen by Frank Trigg. Both women come to the center and quickly clinch. McCourt is landing solid knees to the legs and midsection of Zingano. The two separate briefly, and Zingano begins swinging wildly but doesn't connect. McCourt reestablishes the clinch and begins to work again. McCourt gets a headlock and secures a takedown. Zingano is able to take the back of McCourt with a minute left. Zingano controls the left arm of McCourt and finishes the round in control. While McCourt controlled large stretches of the round, the biggest moments were all Zingano.

Round 2

The second round starts with McCourt landing on top of Zingano and taking her back. However, Cat is able to pop out and then goes for a kick, which allows McCourt to get another takedown. McCourt is in side control. McCourt takes the back and starts throwing punches. Zingano is able to take advantage of the sloppiness of McCourt by reversing, and now she is in half guard. Zingano is able to get the back of McCourt with a little over 90 seconds left. Zingano gets her hooks in and starts looking for a rear-naked choke. The round ends with Zingano threatening McCourt.

Round 3

McCourt opens the round by dropping an off-balance Zingano with a straight hand. McCourt takes side control. McCourt then punches the back of Zingano's head and the fight is paused. The fight is restarted. McCourt is able to trip Zingano and gets into half guard. McCourt lands elbows from top as Zingano can't get her leg free. Zingano gives up her back and is able to then reverse position. McCourt is able to get up and eats a knee, which bloodied up McCourt, who then jumps on the back of Zingano. McCourt gets her hooks in and starts a face crank while wearing a crimson mask herself. Zingano reverses position to end the round on top.

Marcelo Golm (257.62) vs. Daniel James (265.4)

Round 1

Jason Herzog is overseeing the main event. Golm opens with some leg kicks. James is able to bullrush Golm and gets a takedown, but they both pop back up after a scramble. Golm lands damaging knees to the body. The two clinch and James holds his weight on Golm. Golm turns James around and lands a short right hand. Golm lands a knee, and James reverses the position. James lands a short uppercut and then unloads at the end of the round after they separate.

Round 2

James opens the second round by checking a kick. Golm is able to clinch up again and begins landing knees and short punches against the cage. Golm gets a takedown and begins working from half guard. James is eating shots to the body and can't get up. Golm ends the round on top and in full control with all the momentum in his favor.

Round 3

The two heavyweights come out to the center of the cage. James gets aggressive and backs up Golm. He tags him with a right hand and the two reset. A left to the body and then a right hook stuns Golm. An uppercut puts Golm further in danger, and it is followed up with a beautiful left hook and another uppercut that sends him crashing down. What a combination to finish the fight!
