Bellator Adds Magana to Women’s Draw

Bellator Fighting Championships on Tuesday announced the signing of Gladiator Challenge veteran Angela Magana. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Magana joins the unbeaten Megumi Fujii, Rosi Sexton, Lisa Ward and Jessica Pene in the 2010 Bellator women’s 115-pound tournament, which kicks off in August. Based at Team Four Corners, a Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts sister gym in New Mexico, the 27-year-old Magana has posted five wins in her last seven appearances.

“There is not an easy fight anywhere in this tournament,” Bellator founder and CEO Bjorn Rebney said in a release, “and Angela should present a very tough fight for everyone she faces.”

Magana has not competed since September, when she submitted to a rear-naked choke from Pene under the Action Fight League banner in Hollywood, Fla. She has secured six of her eight career victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission.

Fujii, 36, will enter the tournament as the prohibitive favorite. Perfect in 20 professional bouts, the Japanese superstar made her promotional debut at Bellator 21 on June 10, as she stopped Sarah Schneider on third-round punches from the mount. Fujii has finished her last eight opponents, four of them inside one round.
