Colby Covington fired the first shots at former One Championship and Bellator MMA welterweight champion Ben Askren calling “Funky” a “34-year-old virgin” who is a “complete joke” during a recent episode with BJ Penn.com Radio.
Askren has now posted a video on his Instagram page to respond to Covington’s comments claiming that nobody likes “Chaos” and that he “doesn’t have friends.”
“Colby [Covington],” Askren said. “I want to fight Colby. Nobody likes Colby. Literally nobody. Listen, not just like in the fake world in Twitter, social media, because social media and Twitter, that’s kind of like … kind of a fake universe. It’s not really reality, right? But in the real world, nobody likes Colby. He doesn’t have friends. I don’t even know if his mom likes him. Nobody likes this guy. Me included, I want to beat him up. Simple as that.”
Askren then turned towards a man walking by.
“That guy doesn’t like Colby. Watch,” Askren said. “Hey, do you like Colby?” he called to the man.
“Covington?” The man responded.
“Yeah,” Askren replied.
“Nah, that guy’s a dick,” the man said, eliciting laughter from Askren.
“See?” Askren said. “Told you guys, nobody likes him, nobody likes him.”
The undefeated Askren put the welterweight division on notice when the UFC announced they had signed him as part of a swap deal with former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson who is heading over to One Championship.
Askren is set to make his UFC debut against former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler at UFC 233 in January.
