The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Aug. 23 visit to Oklahoma now has a headliner, as former lightweight king Benson Henderson will lock horns with Rafael dos Anjos.
News of the bout first appeared in the Tulsa World on Tuesday. UFC Fight Night “Henderson vs. dos Anjos” takes place at BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla., and also includes a welterweight scrap between Thiago Alves and Jordan Mein.
Henderson has only tasted defeat once in 10 trips inside the Octagon. Since relinquishing his lightweight crown to Anthony Pettis at UFC 164, “Smooth” has won two straight fights, taking a contentious split decision over Josh Thomson in January before submitting Rustam Khabilov with a fourth-round rear-naked choke at UFC Fight Night Albuquerque on June 7.
Dos Anjos also had a successful trip to New Mexico, stopping Jason High with punches 3:36 into the second round of their lightweight clash. The Brazilian has won six of his last seven starts with the Las Vegas-based promotion; his only blemish during that time was a unanimous decision defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC on Fox 11.
