Bisping: ‘I Don’t Consider Myself The Underdog’

Somewhere along the way to the Octagon this Saturday, somebody forgot to tell Michael Bisping that he’s the underdog.

The UK’s No. 1 fighting export tackles former Pride champion Dan Henderson at UFC 100 in Las Vegas, the finishing stroke to their rival stints as coaches on Spike TV’s “The Ultimate Fighter.”

Bisping, who earned his stripes on the U.K. circuit before winning the third season of the popular television series, will be the first to admit his credentials and cage time don’t quite match up to the two-time Olympic Greco-Roman wrestler’s 30-fight resume. However, the Brit -- who enters his nineteenth career bout Saturday -- believes the tale of the tape on paper doesn’t reflect the here and now.

“[Henderson’s] had a fantastic career and I still think he’s having a fantastic career,” Bisping told Sherdog.com during this exclusive interview from the Tapout Research and Development Training Center in Las Vegas. “That said, I think he’s come to the end of his career and I’m just coming into my prime –- I think that’s going to be the difference in the fight.”

With a diverse supporting cast around him that includes Phil Baroni, Zach Light, and Mario Neto, Bisping gives viewers a look into the fight that could earn him a newfound respect among the fans and his peers, as well as springboard the 30-year-old into title contention.

Candid but astute, Bisping broaches his perceived over-confidence, Henderson’s recent name-calling, what position he won’t be caught dead in, and where he believes he has the advantage come fight night.
