Bonnar, Vemola Meet at UFC Live 5 in August

A light heavyweight confrontation between Stephan Bonnar and Karlos Vemola is in the works for UFC Live 5, the promotion announced Tuesday.

“Verbal agreements are in for an August matchup between Karlos Vemola and Stephan Bonnar,” UFC President Dana White said in a statement. “Vemola is an extremely powerful wrestler with heavy hands, while Bonnar is very well-rounded and known for his incredible ability to take punishment and keep coming forward.”

While not officially announced by the promotion, the Versus-broadcast UFC Live 5 is expected to go down Aug. 14 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. The event will also likely feature a welterweight scrap pitting Duane Ludwig against Amir Sadollah and a lightweight tilt between Cole Miller and T.J. O’Brien.

Bonnar (Pictured) is a 13-time UFC veteran. A finalist during the inaugural season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” the 34-year-old has had his ups and downs in the Octagon since debuting with the promotion in 2005. The “American Psycho” recently snapped a three-fight skid, posting back-to-back victories to close out 2010. The light heavyweight first avenged his loss to Krzysztof Soszynski in July and followed that with a unanimous decision win over Igor Pokrajac in December.

Vemola recently made the cut to 205 pounds after suffering his first career loss at heavyweight to Jon Madsen in July. The London Shootfighters representative debuted at light heavyweight in November, blasting Seth Petruzelli at UFC 122. The 25-year-old Czech was supposed to return to the Octagon against Luiz Cane at UFC 128 in March, but was forced out of the bout with a mouth infection.
