A massive welterweight clash is in the works and it’s headed to the fight capital of the world just before Christmas.
According to a report by ESPN.com, 147-pound titlist Keith “One Time” Thurman will lock horns with Shawn Porter on Dec.12 and their duel is headed for one of the major casino resorts in Las Vegas.
The Thurman-Porter clash will be televised by Showtime, though the network declined to comment about the mega fight.
Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) is quickly becoming one of boxing’s brightest young stars and a win over the former IBF welterweight champion would be a feather in his cap. Thurman captured the WBA welterweight title by defeating Robert Guerrero over 12 rounds in March on Premier Boxing Champions’ debut on NBC. He defended in July by taking out tough veteran Luis Collazo in the seventh.
After snatching his lone world title by defeating Devon Alexander in December 2013, Porter lost it last August when he ran into Kell Brook. Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) has since rebounded with a fifth-round knockout of Erick Bone in March and most recently a unanimous 12-round decision over former three-division world champion Adrien Broner in June.
More details about the venue, a co-main event and full undercard will be released in the coming weeks.
