Boxing: Tyson Fury Will Risk Title Shot Against Wladimir Klitschko
Undefeated heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury will fight Christian Hammer
on Feb. 28 at the O2 Arena in London.
The bout was announced by British promoter Frank Warren earlier this week. By taking the fight in the interim, Fury will risk his shot at Wladimir Klitschko’s world title next summer.
Fury (23-0, 17 KOs) was most recently in action against Dereck
Chisora on Nov. 29, finishing his opponent in the 10th round. The
fight served as the final eliminator to establish a mandatory
challenger for Klitschko.
Hammer (17-3, 10 KOs) has not suffered defeat since 2010, since then the 27-year-old has rallied off 10-straight wins.
"I've said all along I'm not like these other fighters in the division who pussyfoot around, take soft touches and call themselves fighters,” Fury said. “I could have taken an easy job at the O2 Arena to keep my position safe for my world title fight against Klitschko, but that's not what Tyson Fury is about or what the public want to see from someone who has promised from day one to win the world heavyweight title.”
Klitschko will also take one fight before his bout with Fury. The 63-3 champion is slated to enter the ring at some point again in April.
