“Unfortunately today instead of traveling to Ireland to fight, I’m starting a new journey to recover from an injury sustained a couple days ago, I was hoping for good news but not this time,” Girtz wrote. “This is just a small detour in my journey and I’ll be back with full strength very soon. Life has a plan for me and I’m just rolling with it. God bless and I’ll keep everyone updated.”

Girtz (16-8) was scheduled to compete in the co-main event of Bellator 227 against Irishman Paul Redmond (15-8), who is not receiving a new opponent. The Bellator MMA lightweight veteran is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Charlie Leary at Bellator 217. Prior to that, he lost via Arm-Triangle Choke to former Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler.
Bellator 227 takes place Sept. 27 at 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland. The main event will see rising Irish star James Gallagher facing Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Roman Salazar. While the card loses Redmond in the co-main event, the lineup remains well stocked with Irish and UK talent including Michael Page, Keifer Crosbie and Will Fleury.
