The fight card for Bellator 140 continues to take shape, as the California-based promotion Wednesday announced a welterweight showdown between Brennan Ward and Gavin Sterritt.

Headlined by a 170-pound title fight between champ Douglas Lima and challenger Andrey Koreshkov, Bellator 140 will take place July 17 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Ward conquered the Bellator Season 9 middleweight tournament but came up short in his title bid when he was submitted by then-champion Alexander Shlemenko. The Connecticut-based fighter’s next bout saw him punched out in just 21 seconds at the hands of Tamdan McCrory. Most recently, “The Irish Bad Boy” rebounded with a first-round submission of Curtis Millender on Feb. 27.

Sterritt, who has not competed since March 2014, will enter the bout on a six-fight winning streak, which includes a pair of victories inside the Bellator cage. The English “War Horse” has not lost since his pro debut in 2008 and has finished five of his last six opponents.
