Brock Lesnar on Potential Superfight with Jon Jones: ‘Anytime, Anywhere’

A Brock Lesnar vs. Jon Jones superfight seems highly unlikely given the current circumstances, but in the era of Mayweather vs. McGregor, perhaps anything is possible.

The hypothetical bout recently became a hot topic when Jones addressed a showdown with Lesnar during a UFC Facebook chat this week.

“I would love to fight Brock Lesnar. He’s a massive dude. It would be a massive draw, really big for the sport. It would be a great challenge; that’s a big old boy,” Jones said. “I doubt Brock Lesnar would take that fight, though. I definitely wouldn’t try to wrestle with him the whole time. I’m not going to tell you what I would do.”

Jones will return to the Octagon for the first time since April 2016 when he attempts to regain light heavyweight gold in a rematch with Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 on Saturday in Anaheim, Calif. He was supposed to face Cormier at UFC 200 last summer but was pulled from the card after testing positive for estrogen blockers in a pre-fight drug test.

Lesnar, meanwhile, competed on that same card, taking a unanimous decision over Mark Hunt in his first UFC appearance since December 2011. However, the former heavyweight champion tested positive for clomiphene in both an out-of-competition drug test and an in-competition test on the day of UFC 200. Like Jones, Lesnar was suspended for a year for the anti-doping violation, but the WWE star elected to inform the UFC of his retirement. As a result, Lesnar’s suspension remains frozen until he re-enters the USADA drug testing pool.

There were recently rumors that Lesnar was in the process of doing exactly that, but UFC vice president of athlete health and performance Jeff Novitzky told MMAFighting.com that wasn’t the case.

Still, Lesnar did seem open to a showdown with Jones should the opportunity arise.

“Would I fight Jon Jones? Anytime, anywhere,” Lesnar told the Associated Press. “Right now he should be worried about ‘DC’ on Saturday night.”
