CES MMA took over the Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I., Friday night with another evening of action on AXS TV.
In the main event, Levan Makashvili submitted Sean Soriano with a textbook rear-naked choke in the second round. The two featherweights fought evenly in the first, but once the fight hit the canvas, the tide ebbed in Makashvili’s favor. The end came officially at 4:05 of the frame, allowing Makashvili to reign supreme in a matchup of Ultimate Fighting Championship veterans.
In the co-feature, Calvin Kattar was the better all-around fighter as he scored a unanimous decision over fellow featherweight Chris Foster. The fight was a bit closer than the scores would indicate but there was no question as to whom the victor was. Kattar won via tallies of 29-28 and 30-27 (twice).
In the rest of the televised card’s action, middleweight Mike Rodriguez submitted John Poppie with a triangle choke at 1:32 of the second; bantamweight David Garcia forced Rico DiSciullo to tap out to a slick keylock 2:25 into their fight; Pat Walsh forced a quick doctor stoppage to get a first-round TKO (1:49) over Carlos Zevallos in a heavyweight skirmish; and Kody Nordby edged Branden Seyler via unanimous decision with scores of 30-27 on all three cards.
