CSAC Accepts PRIDE Options, Many Hurdles Remain

LOS ANGELES, Calif., August 2 — The California State Athletic Commission voted Tuesday to include several options put forward by PRIDE into the proposed mixed martial arts regulations that were under review by the Office of Administrative Law in Sacramento, Sherdog.com's Josh Gross reports.

This amended legislation, which allows for the use of a ring, the 10-5-5 round system and special equipment like gis and wrestling shoes, but not the option to kick or knee to the head on the ground, extends the regulation process by at least 45 days and puts in jeopardy the entire legislation if it is not finalized by a drop-dead date of December 9.

Should that happen, the regulatory process must start from scratch, and the earliest any regulated MMA could take place in the Golden State would be mid-2006.
