CSAC Revokes Fighter's License After Third Infraction

Mixed martial artist Ty Montgomery (Pictures), who was on the losing end of a 41-second technical knockout against Virgil Zwicker on Aug. 24 in Imperial Beach, Calif., had his "license as a professional athlete" revoked and was fined $2,500, the Calif. State Athletic Commission announced Friday.

"Mr. Montgomery has had three disciplinary actions within the last 11 months that have led to his license revocation," noted CSAC Staff Services Analyst Bill Douglas in an e-mail.

The heavyweight first tested positive for cannabis following a loss to Doug Vanderpool (Pictures) at Gladiator Challenge 52 in Aug. of 2006.

In March of this year, the Sacramento-based fighter was reprimanded for a "physical altercation at a weigh-in with the promotion's matchmaker."

Montgomery, 0-2-0, showed traces of marijuana in a CSAC administered urinalysis following his fight versus Zwicker.

He is eligible to apply for reinstatement with the CSAC on Aug. 31, 2008.
