Cage Warriors Announces Return with April 15 Event in London

After a brief hiatus, Cage Warriors Fighting Championship is planning to hold its first event in 17 months later this year.

The European mixed martial arts promotion announced on Thursday that CWFC 75 will take place at Camden Centre in London on April 15. Matchups and broadcast details are expected to be revealed at a later date.

“We know that fight fans want to know everything right now, but I wanted to make sure Cage Warriors returns in a way I felt comfortable with, and in a way that underlined our commitment to develop the sport in the EMEA region,” CWFC President Graham Boylan said in a release.

CWFC 74, the promotion’s most recent offering, took place on Nov. 15, 2014 at Copper Box Arena in London and saw current UFC talent Nicholas Dalby outpoint Mohsen Bahari in the main event. All told, the organization has staged 85 events since its inception in 2002.

Prospects did not look promising for Cage Warriors when Boylan resigned as the company’s CEO in February 2015. An event scheduled for the following month was then postponed, and CWFC ultimately remained dormant throughout all of 2015.

However, Boylan assumed ownership of the promotion in June 2015, which set the stage for CWFC’s return. A number of prominent fighters have passed through Cage Warriors on their way to the big show, including Conor McGregor, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Joseph Duffy, Michael Bisping, Paul Daley and Ross Pearson, to name a few.

“Cage Warriors is at the forefront of driving the sport forward in the EMEA region and is the ultimate proving ground,” Boylan said. “We were renowned for matching the best fights in the region and building talent as well as providing great value and entertainment for fans.

“In 2015 alone seven fighters who had appeared on our show joined the UFC. In 2016 we plan to pick up where we left off, delivering the same explosive quality we are famous for.”
