It's not exactly a showdown with Doo Ho Choi, but Andre Fili is going to get to stay on the UFC 214 card.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced on Monday that Fili will meet Octagon newcomer Calvin Kattar at UFC 214, scheduled for July 29 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Four weeks ago, it was reported that Fili's originally scheduled opponent, the aforementioned Choi, had suffered an injury in training and would be forced to withdraw. Prior the UFC's official announcement, MMA Today was first to report the news of Kattar's signing and appointment.
Fili, 27, earned the biggest win of his pro career last October, taking a unanimous decision over tough -- and overweight – Nova Uniao product Hacran Dias. It was the Team Alpha Male product's first fight since he fell prey to one of 2016's most devastating knockouts, a flying head kick from Mexican prospect Yair Rodriguez at UFC 197 in April 2016.
The 29-year-old Kattar has won eight consecutive bouts and is unbeaten in over seven years. “The Boston Finisher” last saw action in September, topping Chris Foster via unanimous decision at Classic Entertainment and Sports MMA 38.
