The Ultimate Fighting Championship has booked two new middleweight showdowns for UFC Fight for the Troops 3, as Chris Camozzi faces Lorenz Larkin and Yoel Romero Palacio takes on Ronny Markes at the Nov. 6 event.
The show takes place at Fort Campbell in Hopkinsville, Ky., and is headlined by Lyoto Machida’s middleweight debut, as “The Dragon” takes on Tim Kennedy in the evening’s main event live on Fox Sports 1.
Camozzi, 26, recently saw a four-fight winning streak snapped, when he was submitted by former Strikeforce ruler Ronaldo Souza with a first-round arm triangle this past May at UFC on FX 8. Prior to that setback, the 26-year-old kicked off 2013 with a split decision win over Nick Ring at March’s UFC 158.
Also 26, Larkin was outpointed by Francis Carmont in a controversial unanimous verdict this past April at UFC on Fox 7 -- the first loss of “The Monsoon’s” career. Larkin holds notable wins over Robbie Lawler and Gian Villante and has finished 8 of his 13 career victims by way of knockout.
A former Olympic freestyle wrestling silver medalist, Romero impressed in his Octagon debut after exiting Strikeforce on his heels of his first career defeat. The 36-year-old “Soldier of God” picked up “Knockout of the Night” honors for his 92-second demolition of Clifford Starks, finishing the Arizona State alum with a flying knee and punches at UFC on Fox 7.
Markes, meanwhile, has not lost since October 2010, when he suffered the lone setback of his career within Brazil’s Iron Man Championship promotion. Since that defeat, Markes has won seven straight fights, topping the likes of Karlos Vemola, Aaron Simpson and Andrew Craig in his nascent UFC career.
