Carlos Condit, Martin Kampmann Cleared for UFC Fight Night 27 Rematch in Indianapolis

They had to know they might encounter one another again.

Carlos Condit tipped the scales at 170.5 pounds for his rematch with Martin Kampmann (170) in the UFC Fight Night 27 main event on Wednesday at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Lightweight co-headliners Donald Cerrone (156) and Rafael dos Anjos (155.5) also met their contracted weight requirements without incident at Tuesday’s official weigh-in.

Condit, whose Ultimate Fighting Championship debut was spoiled in a split decision loss to Kampmann a little more than four years ago, will enter the cage on a two-fight losing streak. The 29-year-old Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts export last appeared at UFC 158 in March, when he came out on the wrong side of a unanimous verdict against No. 1 contender Johny Hendricks. A dynamic striker and grappler, Condit has secured 26 of his 28 professional victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission. The former World Extreme Cagefighting champion has compiled a 5-3 mark since arriving in the UFC in 2009, with wins over Jake Ellenberger, Rory McDonald, Dan Hardy, Dong Hyun Kim and Nick Diaz.

Kampmann has recorded three victories in his past four outings. The 31-year-old Dane last fought at UFC 154 in November, when he was victimized by the brick-fisted Hendricks in a 46-second knockout at the Bell Centre in Montreal. A former Cage Warriors Fighting Championship titleholder, Kampmann owns an 11-5 record inside the Octagon, wins over Ellenberger, American Top Team’s Thiago Alves and Brave Legion’s Rick Story anchoring his resume.

UFC Fight Night 27 “Condit vs. Kampmann 2” -- which airs live on Fox Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT -- will also feature a bantamweight scrap pairing Erik Perez (135.5) with Takeya Mizugaki (135.5), a middleweight duel pitting Bubba McDaniel (185) against Brad Tavares (186) and a pair of welterweight tilts, as “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum (170) meets Brian Melancon (170) and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 11 winner Court McGee (170) faces “The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes” winner Robert Whittaker (170.5).

Two hours prior, Fox Sports 2, formerly Fuel TV, will carry four preliminary bouts: Dylan Andrews (185) vs. Papy Abedi (184.5), Justin Edwards (170) vs. Brandon Thatch (170), Darren Elkins (145) vs. Hatsu Hioki (146) and Jason High (171) vs. James Head (170.5). The two remaining undercard matchups will stream to the UFC’s Facebook page at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT, as Zak Cummings (170.5) locks horns with Ben Alloway (170) and Roger Bowling (155.5) tackles Abel Trujillo (155).
