It appears that Carlos Condit has a date for his Octagon return.
“The Natural Born Killer” and Thiago Alves have verbally agreed to square off in the UFC Fight Night headliner on May 30 at the Goiania Arena in Goiania, Brazil. Sherdog.com confirmed the news with a source close to the bout following an initial report from MMAFighting.com. The UFC has yet to officially announce the welterweight matchup because contracts have not been signed.
Condit has been sidelined since March 2014 after injuring his knee in a loss to Tyron Woodley at UFC 171. After that bout, the Jackson-Wink MMA standout underwent surgery for a torn ACL and partially torn meniscus. Condit, the former UFC interim 170-pound titlist, has lost three of his last four with the Las Vegas-based promotion, including setbacks to ex-champions Georges St. Pierre and Johny Hendricks.
Alves, meanwhile, returned to active competition last April following a two-year hiatus. The American Top Team representative scored a unanimous verdict over Seth Baczynski in his return before knocking out Jordan Mein with a kick to the body in his most recent outing at UFC 183.
