Chidi Njokuani to Face Thiago Goncalves in New Bellator 156 Co-Main Event

By Mike Sloan Jun 10, 2016

Bellator 156 has a new co-headliner, as Chidi Njokuani will face Thiago Jambo Goncalves in a welterweight showdown, the California-based promotion announced Friday.

Njokuani was originally slated to face former Bellator 170-pound champ Douglas Lima but when Koscheck withdrew from his Bellator 158 bout against Paul Daley due to injury, promotion officials pegged Lima to face Daley on July 16 in London.

Njokuani is unbeaten in his last six bouts, including a unanimous decision triumph over Ricky Rainey in his promotional debut at Bellator 146 on Nov. 20. The Las Vegas resident is 14-4 as a pro, with eight KO/TKO victories to his credit.

The 35-year-old Goncalves will make his Bellator debut having won six of his last seven outings. Most recently, the Brazilian garnered a second-round TKO win over Matt Baker at WSOF 21 in June 2015.

Bellator 156 goes down June 17 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. Spike TV will televise the action live beginning at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT while will stream the prelims live. The card is headlined by a bantamweight championship rematch between Marcos Galvao and Eduardo Dantas.
