Colby Covington Counters Woodley's Wager, Offers $10,000 Per Punch Woodley Throws

While the Ultimate Fighting Championship seems to be considering having Kamaru Usman jump the line to a welterweight title shot, Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington remain fixated on each other.

With Usman’s dominant victory over former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos last week, UFC President Dana White has suggested the promotion may reward him with a title shot against Woodley despite former interim champ Covington -- who also dominated Dos Anjos in his last fight -- waiting in the wings.

However, it seems Woodley is favoring a fight against “Chaos,” judging by his comments over the weekend, and if they did meet in the future he has no intention of wrestling him suggesting he would rather stand and bang. Woodley issued a wager to Covington over the weekend by which he would give Covington $20,000 for every takedown he attempts, while Covington must pay him $10,000 for every time he himself attempts a takedown.

Covington was a recent guest on MMA Junkie Radio and offered a counter to Woodley’s wager stating he’d give Woodley $10,000 for every punch he throws. Covington claimed to be confident the champ won’t be able to throw more than five.

“What I make of it is, I’m going to counter him and I’m going to bet him on MMAjunkie Radio that I’m going to give him $10,000 for every punch he throws -- all five of them,” Covington said. Covington claimed he is ready to fight Woodley and that the champ has been using excuses to avoid meeting him inside the Octagon.

“We’re just waiting on Woodley,” Covington said. “That’s literally what we’ve been waiting on for the last year. He’s been faking injuries. He had his fake shoulder surgery – but he was good to fight Nate Diaz during that time. Now he says he was good to fight me at (Madison Square) Garden (at UFC 230 in November). By the way, I was ready to defend my belt three months (after UFC 225) in the Garden, but all of a sudden he couldn’t fight in the Garden a week after negotiations got going.

“He was out and said his thumb was hurting – that’s fake news, as well, and he’s faking injuries again. We’re just waiting on Woodley. Whenever he wants to go, whenever he wants to tell the people – he lies and says fake news to the media – I’m ready to go whenever Woodley wants to go, and this needs to happen.

“If it doesn’t happen, it’s Woodley’s fault.”
