Conor McGregor Hints at Potential Showdown with Khabib Nurmagomedov
UFC 224 available for order on Amazon Prime
(Prime Video PPV)
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor has been uncharacteristically quiet on social media ever since he attacked a bus at UFC 223 media day.
“The Notorious” is known for using social media to build hype for
his upcoming fights, so it was no surprise fans were excited when
the Irish star posted a picture and a video of his recent training
sessions to highlight the fact he’s been working on his wrestling
game, potentially putting some future opponents on notice.
While it is no secret McGregor wants his lightweight belt back after the UFC stripped him due to inactivity, the only way he’ll get it back in the short term is to earn a shot at one of best fighters on the planet in Khabib Nurmagomedov. “The Eagle” is undefeated in his professional mixed martial arts career (26-0) and has completely controlled all of his opponents inside the Octagon using his wrestling to nullify their offense.
The biggest concern for McGregor would have to be his inactivity in mixed martial arts. The 29 year-old hasn’t fought inside the Octagon since he won the lightweight belt against Eddie Alvarez in November 2016.
What we are certain of based on McGregor’s social media post is that he’s still training and he’s focusing on improving his wrestling. This is all hypothetical however, as his return to the Octagon is dependent on the outcome of his next court hearing on June 14, where he’s facing multiple charges relating to the bus attack.
