Conor McGregor Opens as Slight Betting Favorite for Potential Rematch with Jose Aldo

Bookmakers have pegged new UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor as an early betting favorite in a potential second bout with former divisional king Jose Aldo.

Online sports book Bovada.lv on Monday released opening lines for the rumored UFC 194 rematch, which has not been confirmed or scheduled by the UFC. McGregor has been installed as a -160 favorite, meaning that a $100 wager would return a profit of $62.50. Aldo, meanwhile, sits as a +130 underdog, meaning a $100 bet would return $130 in profit.

McGregor exceeded all expectations on Dec. 12 in Las Vegas when he wiped out Aldo with a 13-second, one-punch knockout.

McGregor was also picked as the favorite for UFC 194 when the matchup was officially rescheduled in August. Interestingly, the Irishman was a heavier favorite for that matchup, opening at roughly -200 to Aldo’s +155 line. Those odds flipped in the proceding months, and by fight time on Saturday, Aldo was a very slight favorite at -115.

Interestingly, some bookmakers have also opened lines on a potential showdown between McGregor and Frankie Edgar. According to BestFightOdds.com, “The Notorious” is the odds-on favorite in that fight, too, as McGregor currently sits at around -175 to Edgar’s +165.
